What's actually inside an "AI toy"?
Most AI plush toys on the market today run on the same core component: a standardized AI hardware module (sometimes called an AI movement).
It's simple in concept — a microphone, a speaker, a connectivity chip, and a link to a cloud LLM. What it does is not simple: it turns a toy from "plays back a recording" into "understands what you just said and responds to it."
That shift is showing up in the numbers. China's AI toy market is projected to hit ~RMB 29B in 2025, and AI-enabled plush is commanding 60–70% higher price points than traditional plush in manufacturing hubs like Yiwu.
The manufacturers making this shift aren't becoming AI companies. They're pairing what they already do well — design, materials, production — with a proven AI module, and validating fit through rapid prototyping before committing to a full production run.
The toy doesn't need to be reinvented. It just needs a way to listen back.
